MLP NG Debut: Flurry Heart

Not the biggest fan of Flurry Heart, but I think that once she has a different body type (Not a newborn that looks like a short 5 year old) she'll look much better. While I'm not overly fond of the gradient thing, it works well with her colors. She actually incorporates a balance of her parents, which is nice.

Anyways, this is my design for adult Flurry Heart. As the heir to the throne of the Crystal Empire, Flurry has undergone proper training for her role. She took all sorts of classes throughout her youth about customs, behavior, respect, and history. These classes worked nicely to bring her up as a well rounded and educated individual, as well as a promising future empress.

The prim and proper exterior isn't quite where her personality ends. Let's for a second investigate other influences on Flurry's life.

    At around age two, Flurry's baby flight stopped. Like a lot of pegasi, her ability to fly as a baby faded away as her wings developed, and she had to relearn how to fly. For most toddlers, this would be a lot like potty-training: It takes a little while to get used to it, but in the end, most pegasi are able to learn how to fly adequately by the age of around five (by fly, I mean with medium accuracy. They can hover and stuff before that, but at age five they can like, fly up and down stairs with some speed and control. Or something like that.) 
    When Flurry began to relearn how to fly, however, she wasn't making much progress. Her ever-growing wings made her extremely uncoordinated and weighed her down. Cadence and Shining Armor tried everything they could to try and get their little filly back in the swing of things, but she kept falling further and further behind. Eventually, after going through private trainer after private trainer, they contacted a griffon by the name of Miss Grizzleford. She took them up on their offer, and came to the Crystal Empire to teach the young princess how to fly. Griffons, having naturally larger wings than ponies, learn to fly in a bit of an unconventional way (which consists mostly of jumping off of tall things), but Flurry started to make progress under the wing of Miss Grizzleford. After a year of lessons, she had fully caught up with other ponies her age when it came to flight. However, there were side effects to having a griffon teacher. While Griffonstone has become an increasingly welcoming place, there are still quite a few grouchy griffons left in the bunch. Miss Grizzleford just happened to be one of them. She believed that the griffons were superior to ponies in many ways, but found a special interest in the alicorn filly. She filled her head with small and seemingly innocent ideas about her own importance and superiority. Despite leaving when Flurry was seven, Miss Grizzleford's negative attitude and air of superiority lingered with the filly into marehood. To this day, she's very snobbish and doesn't trust easily.

    To make matters worse, while she was learning to fly, Flurry's magic hit a growth spurt. The charm that Sunburst used to keep her under control as a foal was easily broken by outbursts of untamed magic. The sorcerer tried everything to replace the charm and restrain the filly's magic. When he failed continuously, the Princesses tried to train Flurry to control the magic herself, but the more they tried, the worse it became. Out of options and lacking any other solution, Celestia cast a near-permanent restraint on the young alicorn's horn. She lives now without magic. It took Flurry a long time to readjust to life without her horn, and it devastated her parents to watch their daughter go through such a rough transition without being able to help. Feeling bad about the loss of her magic, Shining and Cadence dedicated more of Flurry's time to flight. This, as previously stated, didn't turn out to be the relaxing and refreshing experience that they had hoped.

    Flurry, while a full fledged princess, has a bit of a cold disposition. She did earn her cutie mark, which represents her role as princess in protecting the empire from harm. She will rule with a strong and stable consciousness, although her compassion towards other kingdoms is often in question.
